May 25, 2013
Chicago firefighters found an apparent stowaway on a $1 million boat as they extinguished a fire that broke out on it Friday afternoon.

May 24--A man discovered by firefighters on board a luxury boat in Burnham Harbor when it caught fire this afternoon was turned over to police, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Firefighters were called to a dock at the harbor, near 1800 S. Museum Campus Drive, about 4 p.m., and found a fire on a boat estimated to be worth about $1 million, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and searched the boat. When they made their way into the cabin, firefighters found a man, believed to be in his 20s, who did not appear to be an owner of the boat, Langford said.

In video from the scene, the boat, named Lacerne, appeared to have suffered damage to its main cabin.

The man did not appear to be harmed in the fire, and was turned over to police, Langford said.
