May 28--A two-alarm fire burned through five townhouses in Elkridge early Tuesday morning, requiring three people to be treated for smoke inhalation and displacing five families, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
Firefighters responded to the homes in the 6900 block of Ducketts Lane shortly before 12:30 a.m. for reports of a fire on the rear deck of one of the homes, the department said.
At the scene, a second-alarm was called after it became clear the blaze had spread through the home's attic and roof and into multiple adjacent homes, the department said.
A total of 60 firefighters from Howard, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties responded. Three people received oxygen therapy at the scene for smoke inhalation but refused to be transported to an area hospital, the department said.
No firefighters were injured.
Five families have been displaced from the homes. Four of the homes were expected to be deemed uninhabitable, the department said.
The fire remains under investigation.
