June 03--A fire destroyed a Madison Heights house Sunday morning, displacing the family of five who lived there.
The structure fire on Kings Road was reported at 11:11 a.m. Sunday, said Gary Roakes, public safety director for Amherst County. The Amherst County Fire Department, Department of Public Safety and Amherst County Sheriff's Office responded to the call, along with Monelison and Pedlar volunteer departments.
The house was a "total loss," Roakes said, and the Red Cross is assisting the four adults and three-year-old child who lived there. The house was a rental property, and the family did not have renters insurance, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Roakes said.
