Ga. Fire Restoration Business Now Needs Clean-up
June 04--Duraclean specializes in cleaning up fire and water damage, but Sunday morning the Macon business had a mess of its own.
At about 2 a.m., owner Bradley Parks got a call that two of his vehicles were on fire.
Sgt. Ben Gleaton, an arson investigator from the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, said Monday that the blaze was deliberately set.
Barbed wire had been damaged on the top of the fence surrounding the business at 2770 Roff Ave.
"Could be past employees or random, we don't know," said Duraclean CFO Larry Parks, the owner's father. "It could be anything."
Bradley Parks was out buying additional security equipment for the property Monday afternoon.
"It's a mess, isn't it," he said when he returned.
Gleaton said the fire started in a panel truck in the yard, but the flames spread to a van parked next to it and the heat and flames damaged the metal building.
"It melted, but the fire department saved the building," Larry Parks said.
The destroyed panel truck that was set ablaze contained equipment for water and fire restoration.
A van used for carpet cleaning was the next to burn.
"Those trucks new would be $60,000 a piece," Parks said. "We don't know how much the building damage will be."
