STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Emergency response crews are performing a high angle rescue at the Bay Bridge on Tuesday morning.

We are told a contractor was hit by large bucket of paint in the head and neck while working on a catwalk under a span of the bridge. Rescue crews were trying to stabilize his neck before lifting him up.

Officials say that he is alert and conscious, and appears to have non life-threatening injuries.

Traffic is beginning to get by now on the westbound side of Bay Bridge. There are major delays.
