June 08--Three people were hurt in a blaze that broke out in a Coral Springs assisted living facility early Saturday, according to a fire-rescue official.

The fire started after midnight in the bedroom of a woman in the Alzheimer's unit of The Inn at Aston Gardens in the 9400 block of Aston Gardens Court, said Coral Springs Fire Department Capt. Mike Moser.

A security guard at the assisted living facility was able to pull the woman out of the room, he said.

She was transported to Broward Health North; the security guard was taken to Coral Springs Medical Center with minor injuries. Another resident was also taken to that hospital for smoke inhalation.

Another five patients were also medically treated on site, Moser said.

When crews arrived, moderate smoke filled the hallway in the second floor and some residents and staff members had evacuated the building, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There was damage caused by the fire in the bedroom and moderate water damage in a dining and recreation room.
