Nine Hospitalized, Wis. Hotel Closed After CO Leak

A carbon monoxide leak traced to a malfunctioning hot tub heater at a Lake Delton hotel sent at least nine people to the hospital for treatment.

June 15--A malfunctioning jacuzzi heater caused a carbon monoxide leak at a Lake Delton hotel late Friday that hospitalized at least nine people.

Six people were treated and released from St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, and three were transferred to Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee for further treatment.

Travelodge Wisconsin Dells, located at 350 W. Munroe Avenue, will be closed pending further investigation, according to a statement from the Delton Fire Department.

Amanda Antes, who works the front desk at the hotel, said Travelodge employees are calling all of their guests to reroute them to other hotels in the area. The Salvation Army also responded Friday night to assist guests.

Antes said an she and another employee started to get headaches, then noticed a carbon monoxide detector flashing Friday night around 11 p.m. Emergency crews evacuated the hotel and transported five people to the hospital. Later, four more people arrived at St. Clare Hospital seeking treatment.
