July 26--Fire destroyed 16 units of a Cobb County apartment complex Thursday night. But firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one building at the complex.

Firefighters were called to the Marquis Place apartments on Franklin Road shortly after 6 p.m. and arrived to find flames and smoke near the complex entrance, according to Officer David Baldwin with Marietta police.

All residents were accounted for and no injuries were reported, Baldwin said. But 31 people were displaced by the blaze and were being assisted by the Red Cross late Thursday.

Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene throughout the night to battle any hot spots or structure collapse, Baldwin said. The entrance to the complex was temporarily blocked by police and firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
