July 27--A Duluth man who was found outside the scene of a house fire Friday was questioned and later arrested on arson charges.

The fire, reported shortly after 11:30 a.m., damaged several units in the Windwood Townhomes at the corner of Pecan Avenue and Upham Road.

While no one was found inside the residence, a 26-year-old man standing outside was taken in for questioning, according to a statement from the Duluth Police Department. The statement did not explain why the man was singled out for questioning. He later was arrested and jailed on first degree arson charges.

Officials on the scene said two people were treated for smoke inhalation.

There was major fire damage to the unit where the fire started. Officials said the fire spread through the attic above several adjoining units. After the flames had been knocked down, crews worked to remove insulation from the walls and attic.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call Duluth police arson investigator Todd Kuusisto at (218) 730-5709.
