Four Wash. Homes Damaged by Fire, $500K Damages

Three homes in South Hill Were extensively damaged and a fourth sustained smoke damaged in after a fire broke out in one of the homes.

Aug. 09--A house fire that ripped through two South Hill homes and damaged a third Thursday resulted in an estimated $500,000 in damage.

At about 3:30 p.m., the Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire at East 19th Avenue and South Sherman Street. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was extensive in two homes. A third was severely damaged and a fourth sustained smoke damage, according to a department news release.

Three cars, a motorcycle and a boat were also destroyed by the fire, according to the news release.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries, but no one else was hurt, according to the release.

Investigators have not determined the cause of the blaze, though neighbors reported hearing several explosions before seeing the flames.
