The Albanian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in South Boston was declaed a total loss, according to The Boston Herald.

Firefighters responded to the church about 9:10 a.m., and appeared to have the flames under control about 11 a.m. But heavy smoke once again filled the sky approximately half an hour later, reporters on the scene noted.

"The fire is reigniting becasue we can't get between the ceiling and the top fo the roof, and that's where the fire is taking off," acting Boston Fire Chief John Hasson said.

Firefighters were ordered out of the building about 9:40 a.m. for fear the interior ceiling would collapse.
