Aug. 25--A judge set bail today at $150,000 for a woman charged with arson along with her boyfriend following a blaze that caused a roof collapse Friday night in the South Chicago neighborhood, police said.

Danielle Gardner, 21, and her boyfriend Dwayne Kohler, 27, were both charged late Saturday night with one count each of felony residential arson, police said.

Gardner appeared in bond court today where her bail was set. Kohler, who was hospitalized after being injured after the incident, did not appear in court.

Williams and Gardner both live in the building in the 8000 block of South Marquette Avenue where the fire erupted about 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to police and the Chicago Fire Department.

Firefighters were battling the fire in the attic of the two-story brick structure when the roof collapsed causing firefighters to issue a mayday, officials said. After the collapse, officials called for an emergency medical services plan 1 response which called for multiple ambulances to respond, according to the fire department.

Officials later noted that all firefighters were accounted for and the scene was secured.

According to a police report, Gardner and Kohler were placed into custody after Gardner "doused a garbage can full of debris with lighter fluid and Kohler lit the fire and moved the garbage can next to the building," the report said.

As family members tried to detain Kohler for police, he suffered facial injuries and was taken to South Shore Hospital, police said. His injuries are not life threatening and his condition has stabilized.

The blaze caused about ten people to be displaced from two different apartments, police said.
