Oregon Firefighter Hurt in Fall from Fire Truck

The Tualatin Valley firefighter suffered a back injury.

Aug. 24--A Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighter sustained a serious back injury while assigned to the Government Flats Complex fire near The Dalles.

The firefighter, who was identified only as a man in his mid-40s, fell from the cab of a firetruck parked at the fire camp. He was taken to a medical center in The Dalles, then to OHSU Hospital in Portland.

Officials said his name would not be released.

Also Saturday afternoon, the Wasco County Sheriff's Office told residents previously ordered to evacuate they could return home, but should be prepared to evacuate again.

Officials also invited residents near the fire to a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Dalles-Wahtonka High School, 220 E. 10th St. in The Dalles.
