An engine captain with the Jemez Range District was still missing as of Wednesday night as the search continues for him in the Santa Fe National Forest.

Sept. 05--The search continued Wednesday for a firefighter who has been missing in the Santa Fe National Forest since Friday.

As of Wednesday evening there was no sign of Token Adams, 41, an engine captain with the Jemez Ranger District, according to an incident spokesman.

Adams went missing in the area of School House Mesa, north of Jemez Springs, Friday afternoon. He was on an ATV, searching for smoke related to a lightning strike.

Adams's wife, Heidi, released a short statement that was included in a news release regarding the search.

"We would like to express the heartfelt gratitude we feel for all the men and women that are out there searching for Token," she stated. "We are thankful for all the support we have received from the community and our Forest Service Family. Words cannot express how grateful we are to everyone involved."

Adams is the father of a 3-year-old son and his wife has another child on the way.

The search includes personnel from across several different agencies and includes people on ATVs, search dogs, horses, fixed-wing aircraft and a Blackhawk helicopter.

A spokesman said previously that the search is difficult due to the terrain, which has mesas split by several deep gorges. The land is heavily forested.
