Two people are dead after a truck crashed into a Knoxville house, rupturing the gas tank, touching off a fire that set fire to the house and truck.

Sept. 11--KNOXVILLE -- An early-morning accident claimed the lives of two people after a truck crashed into a house on Sanderson Road around 1:30 on Wednesday.

The Knoxville Fire Department received a call that a vehicle had crashed into a residence at 2110 Sanderson Road, with the homeowners saying that they had been asleep at the time of the crash, according to Captain D.J. Corcoran.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a 1970s Chevrolet pickup embedded in the front living room of the structure, with two occupants of the cab already deceased.

The gas tank on the truck had apparently ruptured, according to Corcoran, setting fire to both the house and the pickup and forcing the shutdown of natural gas to the house as a safety precaution.

No identification of the victims nor potential cause of the accident were given.
