Lightning Strikes BWI Control Tower: Airport Shut Down

One flight controller was injured, but has refused to go to the hospital.

BWI Airport near Baltimore was shut down Thursday afternoon after lightning struck the control tower.

WJZ reporters said a flght controller was injured by the bolt, but has refused to be transported to a hospital.

Witnesses said when the announcement that the airport was closed to all flights was made, there was a unified groan throughout the terminal.

Officials are attempting to assess the extent of the damage.
