Sept. 13--Oxnard firefighters put out two suspicious blazes overnight Thursday, officials said.

The first was reported about 9:20 p.m. in the 4100 block of Fortuna Way. Firefighters found a vehicle on fire in a car port of a mobile home park.

The blaze was confined to the vehicle and a fence and caused an estimated $3,000 damage, said Battalion Chief Darwin Base. It caused a lot of smoke and alarmed residents but was out in about 15 minutes.

Oxnard fire and police departments were investigating the suspicious fire, Base said.

A firefighter was injured in the second fire, which was reported about 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of East Wooley Road. Firefighters found a small debris fire next to a metal structure used for storage, Base said.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but a transient found nearby was taken to a hospital for observation, Base said.

A firefighter also fractured his wrist during the incident and was treated at the hospital. He is expected to be out for up to six weeks, Base said.

Base said there was a fire in the area earlier Thursday but it was not reported to authorities. The cause of the Wooley Road fire also is under investigation.
