Sept. 17--BRIDGEPORT -- Four multi-family homes were heavily damaged and about 30 people displaced after a massive fire early Tuesday in Bridgeport.

The fire broke out about 2:30 a.m. in a house in the 500 block of Brooks Street, and quickly spread to neighboring houses.

All residents got out, although one reportedly suffered burns and several suffered smoke inhalation.

"We're out here freezing and everything is gone," said resident Elvin Cedeno.

A Bridgeport firefighter battling the blaze became disoriented, but was assisted by colleagues.

City buses were brought in to provide a place for displaced residents to stay as firefighters battled the blaze. The American Red Cross and the city were working to assist those displaced.
