Sept. 17--Allentown firefighters rescued five people from an apartment blaze Monday night, according to a fire official.
The fire broke out around 11: 40 p.m. in a second-floor laundry room at an apartment building at 285 E. Union St., Allentown fire Captain John Christopher said Tuesday.
Christopher said fire crews used ladders to pull three people from the second floor of the building and helped two others escape from the first floor. No one was injured.
He said 14 of the apartments inside the building were occupied and all those living there have been displaced. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley.
Christopher said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. He said that although the fire contained to the laundry room was knocked down quickly, fire crews remained on the scene until about 2 a.m.
