Oct. 06--MASONTOWN -- A two-story structure containing three apartments and a garage burned to the ground Saturday afternoon, Masontown Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) spokesman Dan Luzier reported.

The couple living in one apartment wasn't home at the time, he said. They lost everything in the 2:22 p.m. fire.

The structure is on Koury Run Road, Masontown. It runs between Snake Hill and Bull Run roads, he said.

A neighbor spotted a blaze from the kitchen area and called 911, he said. It is not considered a suspicious blaze.

Only one apartment was occupied, he said, and he did not have the name of the occupants.

The other two had just been refinished, and had personal items stored in them.

The building belongs to Thomas Murry. A vehicle was destroyed as well, while a second vehicle had front end damage from the blaze, Luzier said.

The Red Cross was notified and is helping the couple, he said.

About 20 firefighters were at the scene, from Masontown, Reedsville and Cheat Lake VFDs, he said.

With temperatures in the 80s at that time, "it was hot," Luzier said. Firefighters were at the scene for four hours. KAMP Ambulance was also on scene.
