Damage was strewn over a wide area after the blast in Brooke County.

A home explosion in West Virginia has left a girl dead and three others injured.

A half hour before the blast, members of the Hooverson Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the home after someone detected a strong odor. They were still in the area when the explosion occurred, officials told WTOV reporters.

Windows at the firehouse -- about 1,000 feet away from the house that exploded -- were blown out.
