N.C. Firefighter Dies During Training Exercise

A North Carolina fire captain collapsed and died during a training exercise late Monday afternoon.

New Hanover County Fire Rescue Capt. David Heath, 48, died despite efforts to revive him, according to WWAY.com.

Colleagues immediately started CPR, and applied an AED, but their efforts proved fruitless, the station reported.

The training was being held at Cape Fear Community College, and was conducted by the fire department.

Heath was assigned to the Professional Development Division, and worked out of Station 17 at 5901 Murrayville Road.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
