Nov. 04--A woman died and a man was injured when a Carbon County house burned to the ground Monday afternoon after a reported explosion in the Lake Harmony Estates development, authorities said.

Firefighters called for the county coroner after going through the rubble of the two-story house on Tobyhanna Avenue in Kidder Township.

Lake Harmony fire Chief Ralph Lennon confirmed Monday night that the woman died. He said a man who lived there suffered serious injuries and was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The victims were not identified. Other officials radioed the man was burned.

"It was fully involved when we got there," Lennon said of the blaze, which he said was difficult to reach and difficult to put out.

Seven hours after the fire was out, the chief and other officials met at the fire station to go over what happened.

About 50 firefighters were involved in bringing the fire under control. In addition to Lake Harmony's crew, firefighters from Kidder, Albrightsville, Penn Forest, Tobyhanna and Tunkhannock fire companies assisted.

A county emergency dispatcher said the first reports of a house fire came in at 2:07 p.m.

Kidder Township police and state police are investigating the fire.
