The victims have been identified as children.

Nov. 19--Two people died from injuries they suffered in an apartment fire that also injured three other people Monday afternoon, Tulsa Fire Department spokesman Stan May said.

Citing police reports, May said two victims died at a hospital from injuries they suffered in a fire at the London Square Apartments, at 59th Street and Lewis Avenue, about 3 p.m.

Two young children and one adult were in serious condition when they were taken to hospitals. Two girls, ages 18 months and 5 years, were taken to Saint Francis Hospital, EMSA spokeswoman Kelli Bruer said.

May said police did not confirm which of the victims had died.

A 42-year-old woman was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in fair condition, Bruer said.

Two other women whose ages weren't released Monday were also taken to Saint Francis Hospital, one in serious condition and one in fair condition, Bruer said.

Firefighters administered CPR to one of the victims at the scene, May said, and a neighborhood resident described his efforts at resuscitating a victim.

Four fire engines, two ladder trucks and medical squads responded from the Fire Department. Firefighters had the blaze under control shortly after they arrived, May said.

Fire investigators were working to determine what happened after the fire started, having received reports from witnesses that neighbors ran into the smoke-filled apartment and attempted to resuscitate victims.

"We're still trying to piece this all together," May said.

Neighbor Terry Massey said he saw the fire down the street from his home and rushed to help.

"The south side (of the building) was engulfed in flames," he said. "The north side was engulfed in flames."

Massey, 61, said he had some firefighter training in the military, so he ran to the building.

"I saw a lady on the ground," he said. "I started giving her mouth to mouth."

Massey said the woman began coughing.

"They took her off in an ambulance," he said. "I saw them carrying kids."

Massey said he had tripped while running around the apartment, leaving abrasions on his face, but he was glad to have been able to help.

"I'm glad I had the training," he said.
