Nov. 29--CORPUS CHRISTI -- Corpus Christi firefighters battled two home fires Thursday morning, officials said.

The first happened about 3:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Talisman Street.

Officials said no one was injured and investigators suspect candles started the fire in a front room of the house. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes, officials said.

At 7:49 a.m., another fire broke out at a house in the 6300 block of St. Andrews Drive.

The fire started in an air conditioning unit on the first floor, and spread to the attic, officials said.

Officials said no injuries were reported and the house had moderate damage.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 8:17 a.m., officials said.

Officials said as temperatures drop their calls increase because more people are looking for shelter from colder weather or use fireplaces, heaters and candles to stay warm.

Inspections are recommended before using any heating equipment, officials said.
