Waycross Lt. David Little, 50, died at a house fire Sunday.

Firefighters are mourning the loss of Waycross Lt. David Little, 50, who died while battling a house fire Sunday.

"Jeff’s loss hits deep into the heart and soul of this community and fire department," said Waycross Fire Chief David Eddins.

The fire was intentionally set which means the person responsible will be charged with murder.

Little, who entered the public safety community in 1981, was lieutenant of Engine 4.

He previously worked at Childersburg Fire & Rescue and started with Waycross in 2002.

He was promoted to lieutenant in July.

On Sunday evening,  Fire Safety Commissioner Ralph Hudgens announced the fire was arson.

The Waycross police and fire departments and the Georgia State Fire Marshal's office are continuing the probe.
