Dec. 19--STRAFFORD -- No charges have been brought against two children in connection with a fire that destroyed a Leavitt Lane home last month.

The two children, 9 and 10 years old, who are not being identified because of their age, were taken into police custody Nov. 3 after a fire at 38 Leavitt Lane. When emergency officials responded to the blaze, they found one child behind the home, and one child inside the home, according to police.

Police Chief Scott Young said the homeowners were out of state when the fire began. The children, who live in Strafford, do not live at the home where the fire occurred. The day of the incident, the children were released to their parents, and last month police said charges were forthcoming.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home, which is believed to be a total loss.

On Wednesday, Young said the incident remains under investigation, with assistance from the N.H. Fire Marshal's office. He said that the Strafford County Attorney's Office will determine whether charges are brought against the children.

That decision, he said, likely will not be made until after Jan. 1.
