Dec. 21--Investigators on Friday worked to determine the cause of a late-night fire that destroyed a restaurant and heavily damaged a Family Dollar store in Lexington.

Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz said firefighters were keeping an eye on hot spots to prevent flare-ups during the day Friday.

The fire, at a shopping center at 481 West New Circle Road, was reported just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Nantz said the blaze apparently started inside the San Pancho's Taqueria restaurant and spread to the adjoining Family Dollar store.

Nantz described the restaurant as a total loss. The store had significant damage to its roof and the front of the building, he said.

"I'd say they aren't going to be open for a while," he said.
