A woman who jumped into the Patapsco River with the men was rescued.

Dec. 22--The bodies of two men were pulled from the Patapsco River Sunday morning after they had gone swimming, officials said.

The two men and a woman jumped into the water near Port Covington to go swimming early Sunday morning, said Petty Officer Jonathan Lindberg, a spokesman for the Coast Guard.

Baltimore police reported to the Coast Guard at 5:15 a.m. that the three people had jumped into the river, Lindberg said. The woman, 24, came out of the water on her own and said her companions, men ages 27 and 24, were missing, Lindberg said.

The woman was taken to Harbor Hospital to be treated, said Ian Brennan, a Baltimore Fire Department spokesman.

The first man's body was found at about 9 a.m. and the second man's body was found at about 11:30 a.m., Lindberg said.

The Coast Guard sent a 25-foot response boat from its station in Curtis Bay. The Baltimore Fire Department was called to the scene at 5:50 a.m. to help with the search, Brennan said. They used sonar to search the water, which he described as murky.

Also assisting in the search were a dive team from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore's marine police and a Maryland State Police helicopter.

Officials have not released the swimmers' identities.

While the air temperature was warm, water temperature was only 42 degrees at the time the three went into the water, Lindberg said.

"It's very deceiving. It can be warm out, but the water can be very cold," he said.
