Mich. Firefighters Battling Blaze at Ballpark

Firefighters in Michigan have been ordered to evacuate the suite area of a minor league ballpark as conditions have deteroriated.

The fire at the Fifth Third Ballpark near Grand Rapids was dispatched about 11 a.m.

A huge plume of black smoke is rising from Fifth Third Ballpark along U.S. 131 as firefighters battle flames spreading from the stadium area.

The ballpark is the home of the Whitecaps, the single A team of the Detroit Tigers.

The sprinkler system was not operating properly, and there were no hydrants nearby, according to WOOD.com.

The 30 employees escaped without injury.
