Jan. 18--At least two people died in a fire at a Virginia Beach home Friday night, and two firefighters were injured, a fire department spokesman said.

About 6:10 p.m., fire department officials received an alarm for a fire at 1340 Thamesford Drive, where they found heavy smoke, said Virginia Beach Battalion Chief Patrick Seigh.

Two people died in the fire, including one person who was found on the second floor of the home, Seigh said. Fire department officials said the fire was accidental.

Along with those who died, one person in critical condition was taken to a burn trauma unit, and another was injured but refused treatment.

Two firefighters who were injured were taken to an area hospital to receive treatment for first- and second-degree burn injuries and later released, Seigh said.

Officials declared the fire under control just before 7 p.m.
