The medics could hear the man behind the door, but the blazing house collapsed.

Jan. 24--One home collapsed amid a raging fire minutes before first responders could rescue an elderly man who was trapped inside.

Paramedics first spotted the fire around 4 a.m. in the 500 block of W. Washington Street near Parramore.

They tried to break down the door to save the man, whose voice they could hear from behind the front door, Orlando Police said.

But the home couldn't withstand the fire.

As the house began to collapse, paramedics had to back away. They lost contact with the man.

Firefighters found his body in the back of the home once they extinguished the flames, Police Lt. John Holysz said.

Authorities are working to identify the man.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"No one else was located inside the residence, and there were no other injuries," Holysz said.

This is a developing story.
