Four-Alarm Fire Hits NYC Recycling Plant

The building at the Greenpoint recycling plant collapsed during a four-alarm fire that hit overnight in NYC.

March 19--Firefighters on Wednesday morning were still on the scene of a four-alarm blaze at a Greenpoint recycling plant that was first reported at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night, the FDNY said.

The fire was at the Rapid Processing Plant at 860 Humboldt St., a non-fireproof building located across the street from the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and about a mile from the East River. The building partially collapsed 35 minutes after the fire was first reported, according to the FDNY. It increased to a four-alarm blaze just before 9 p.m.

There were no reported injuries yet, the fire department said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
