A Portland firefighter was rescued from basement fire this morning uninjured.
According to the local newspaper, The Portland Tribune, Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a house fire in a North Portland home at about 1 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring out of the house and they went in to look for possible victims.
The fire was found in the basement and as crews began extinguishing it, the fire and smoke banked down and one firefighter couldn’t make the stairwell for evacuation, according to the newspaper report.
A rescue team was deployed, found the firefighter in the basement and lead him to safety, the newspaper reported. He was not injured.
The cause of the fire was under investigation and damage estimates have not been reported.
