Photo Story: Fla. Crews Train on Rapid Intervention

Delray Beach Fire Rescue firefighters conducted rapid intervention crew training recently.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue's (DBFR) Training Division conducted rapid intervention crew (RIC) training scenarios to prepare crews for the strenuous work of rescuing a downed firefighter.

Utilizing Boca Raton Fire Rescue's training tower, the training division built a prop on the fourth floor to simulate conditions inside a residential structure. One instructor acted as the downed firefighter and instructors were used throughout the training ground to ensure safety.

Units were given RIC assignments as they arrived at the scene and were called into action when the firefighter went down. Because the firefighter in need was on the fourth floor and trapped under a partial collapse, it took several attempts by multiple RICs to remove him.

This training helped DBFR's crews better understand the amount of work that goes into rescuing a firefighter in distress.
