TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County police spent more than two hours trying to free a child's fingers from an escalator at Iverson Mall.
Mark Brady with Prince George's County fire described the rescue as a "challenging and tedious extrication."
Brady says the 6-year-old boy caught his hand/fingers in the bottom of an escalator at Burlington Coat Factory at approximately 8:40 p.m. Thursday shortly before closing time.
Crews had to take apart a portion of the escalator to free the boy's hand. He was freed at approximately 11 p.m.
At least one parent was there during the rescue.
Paramedics administered pain medication. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
It's still unclear how the boy's hand became caught in the escalator.
