Four firefighters were transported following the crash in south Charlotte.

Four Charlotte firefighters were injured Thursday morning when a fire truck overturned on a residential street in southern Mecklenburg County near the state line, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 8:20 a.m. on Ardrey Kell Road at Bridgehampton Club Drive. That is in the BridgeHampton neighborhood, west of U.S. 521.

Charlotte fire Capt. Mark Basnight said four firefighters were taken to Carolinas Medical Center “with minor injuries.”

Basnight said the truck was reponding to an emergency call at the time of the crash. He said no other vehicles were involved.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Major Crash Investigation Unit and a Hazmat team arrived at the scene after 9:15 a.m.

Mark Gonda, who lives about 100 feet from the crash scene, said he heard the truck sliding and then heard a bang.

“It sounded like an explosion,” Gonda said.

He said he came outside and saw smoke coming from the truck. A photo tweeted by another witness showed flames coming from the front of the overturned truck.

Skid marks were visible on the road near the crash scene.

Basnight said police are investigating exactly what happened
