May 15--STOCKTON -- Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish a two-alarm fire that injured two people at a west Stockton apartment complex late Wednesday night, officials said.

Fire crews initially responded to a medical call after receiving a report of a person with burn injuries shortly before 9:30 p.m. at 4444 Feather River Drive, just west of Interstate 5 and south of West March Lane, Stockton Fire Department public information ifficer Jeff Whitlock said.

When firefighters arrived, they observed heavy fire coming from a first-floor unit at the March West Commons apartment complex with flames lapping up to the second floor, Whitlock said. Six fire engines, two ladder trucks, two battalion chiefs and one chief's operator were dispatched to battle the blaze, which took about 20 minutes to bring under control, Whitlock said. Damage was limited two apartments in the eight-unit complex, he said.

Two men were privately transported to a local hospital with burn injuries, possibly to their hands, Whitlock said. The exact nature and extent of their injuries was unknown, he said.

Residents of the apartment complex and firefighters reported hearing multiple explosions, Whitlock said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
