Fla. Condo Fire Kills Mom And Her Two Children

A fire that apparently started in a kitchen killed a 42-year-old woman and her two children in an overnight fire while the children's father was at work.

May 21--A Northwest Miami-Dade condo fire early Wednesday morning killed a mother and her two children.

The fire broke out just after midnight at in the kitchen of a condo at 17000 NW 67th Ave., Miami-Dade police said.

Three people, a mother and her children, ages 2 and 12, died in the Miami Lakes third-floor unit fire at the Country Lane condos, police said. The children's father was at work and not home.

Neighbors tried to help before firefighters and police arrived at the complex. The 911 call came at 12:19 a.m. Wednesday.

"You just heard people screaming," neighbor Dylan Oliver told CBS4.

Thomas said a family was brought out of the condo "unconscious."

Neighbors tried to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived.

"A tragic incident," Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvarado Zabaleta told the Miami Herald on the scene.

The fire started in the kitchen and the three people inside were found in the bedroom, he said. Their deaths are possibly due to smoke inhalation, he said.

The mother was identified as Katrina Williams, 42.
