Utah Police Arrest Burned Man for House Fire

The man, who suffered second degree burns, was booked on suspicion of arson and intoxication.

June 08--BOUNTIFUL -- A man suffered second-degree burns before he was booked into jail for allegedly burning down a house Friday night.

The structure fire was reported at about 10 p.m. at 39 S. 600 East.

Emergency crews found 61-year-old Howard Treft in the home as it was burning.

The man received several burns to his head and arms and was transported to the Lakeview Hospital.

South Davis Fire officials report the home was completely destroyed along with trees and brush around it.

The fire was initially investigated as suspicious. After Treft was treated at the hospital he was booked in the Davis County Jail on suspicion of arson and intoxication. Other details on the investigation are unknown.

The house was vacant, but still privately owned. It is unknown what Treft's relationship was to the homeowner, if any.
