Lightning Sparks Fla. Apt. Complex Fire, 71 Displaced

A lightning strike on the roof of a 24-unit Orlando apartment complex sparked a fire that displaced dozens of residents from their homes.

June 11--More than 70 people were displaced from their homes after a fire at River Reach Apartments on Tuesday, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

A lightning strike on the roof around 4:45 p.m. was believed to be the cause of the fire, said spokesman John Mulhall.

The three-story building located off Colonial Drive near SR-408 housed 24 apartments. Fire burned through the roof.

There were no injuries reported and the Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
