A 7-year-old child was trapped and killed in a row house fire and two other children, including one that was dropped into the arms of onlookers, were hurt.

June 16--A 7-year-old child who was trapped in a burning West Baltimore row house died after being recovered by firefighters early Monday, the fire department.

Two other children -- including one firefighters believe was dropped from a window into the arms of onlookers -- were also hospitalized, according to fire department spokesman Ian Brennan.

The fire department identified the dead child as Sean McCullough.

The department received a call for the fire at 1:39 a.m. and was on the scene in the 300 block of N. Bruce St. within two minutes, Brennan said. The fire was called under control by 2:13 a.m. and firefighters went to the upper floor of the house and found two children aged under 10, according to Brennan.

They were both taken to Maryland Shock Trauma where one of them was pronounced dead, Brennan said. Witnesses told fire investigators that one of the children had dropped the third out of a second-story window -- that child was treated at the hospital and reunited with its parents by Monday morning, according to Brennan.

A firefighter also suffered injuries but was treated at Bayview Hospital and released, according to the department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. If the child is determined to have been killed by the fire, he or she will be the ninth person to die in a fire this year.
