La. Chief Charged With Malfeasance in Office

Shreveport Fire Chief Craig Mulford was charged by a grand jury in the manner he handled alleged misconduct by five firefighters.

A grand jury issued a secret indictment against Shreveport Fire Chief Craig Mulford for the way he handled alleged misconduct by five firefighters last year. Charges are pending against another unnamed person.

Five firefighters were arrested last year for "mistreating and playing cruel pranks on a mentally-disabled man who often visited Fire Station No. 8," according to the The Advertiser.

Four are alleged to have hired a prostitute for another man who visited the station.

After an investigation last year, Mulford concluded it was a rumor that originated from a disgruntled employee.

When a fire department employee contacted the FBI, Mulford "ordered the FBI special agent from city property, forbidding the special agent from interviewing the reporting party," according to court documents.

Mulford turned himself in at the Caddo Correctional Center Thursday after being charged with five counts of malfeasance in office.
