July 01--SOUTH MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP -- Two 14-year-old Carlisle boys are facing arson charges after police say they started a fire in an abandoned building in South Middleton Township on June 15.

The juveniles were charged with arson endangering property, causing or risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person. The charges were filed before Cumberland County Juvenile Court.

The incident occurred at a vacant structure on Overfield Drive, South Middleton Township, at 6:54 p.m. June 15.

Fire crews from Citizens Fire Co. and Union 1 responded to the scene, where an abandoned farm building burnt to the ground.

The building sat more than a half a mile away from the edge of the cul-de-sac and firefighters found the fully inflamed building to be abandoned and inaccessible. With no accessible path, crews had no way to get all of their equipment to the blaze.

Crews were on scene until 9:30 p.m., containing the fire to the building and general area, making sure it did not spread to the surrounding woods or structures.
