Investigators believe an arsonist set a grass fire that quickly spread.

July 05--Authorities believe an arsonist started a late afternoon grass fire that spread quickly and engulfed four buildings in the Sabre City Mobile Home Park near Roseville, said Daniel Berlant, public information officer with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Berlant said that a woman was arrested Friday evening, but he did not disclose any information on the woman's age or identity. He said she was arrested in a joint effort by Cal Fire, the Roseville Police Department and the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

"In the initial stages we sent an investigator... and when we went in to investigate it was determined that it was arson," said Berlant. He did not say how that determination was made.

The fire, which was reported to Cal Fire at 5:18 p.m., destroyed four buildings and severely damaged another. It is now 80 percent contained.

Fifteen fire engines from several area fire departments responded to the 5-acre fire at the motor home park off PFE Road near the intersection of Walerga Road.

No injuries were reported in the fire. The scope of the fire forced the evacuation of park residents, as well as the closure of PFE and Walerga roads nearby.

Berlant said it has been a busy fire day for Cal Fire and other firefighting agencies.

"Across the region we've responded to a dozen fires, including fires in Solano County, where we've responded to a half-dozen wildfires," he said.

Berlant said that the current fire status in Placer remains elevated.
