July 26--Columbus Fire lieutenant Stu Tudor is breathing on his own and has been transferred to a rehabilitation center, The Dispatch has learned.

Tudor, 54, was struck by lightning in the parking lot outside Crew Stadium moments before the Crew was scheduled to host FC Dallas on June 28. He was rushed to the Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Since then, Tudor has gradually shown signs of improvement, leading to his being removed from a ventilator.

The Crew's game was postponed for the following day. The Crew monitors incoming storms for lightning strikes, a spokesman said, and the bolt that struck Tudor was the first incidence of lightning within 13 miles of the stadium.
