Cleveland Firefighters Charged in Apparatus Crash

It is alleged that the two lied to investigators of the June fire truck accident.

Cleveland officials have charged two firefighters with falsification after the allegedly tried to covered up a fire truck crash.

Cleveland Spokeswoman Maureen Harper told the the Plain Dealer that Capt. Ronald Vargo and Firefighter Richard Nickerson were involved in the June 21 crash. The truck hit a light pole, causing $20,000 in damage.

"It is alleged that during the investigation of the accident both men lied to the investigating officer," Harper told the newspaper reported.

The two said the collision happened when a vehicle swerved in front of the truck. Officials said security cameras showed something different.

They return to court on Aug. 7 and they face possible discipline and administrative review following their court date.
