The Glendale firefighters were on the scene of a vehicle fire.

One firefighter was killed, and his mother is fighting for life after they were struck along a Kentucky interstate early Wednesday.

Jonathan French, 23, and his mother, Lisa, 40, were with other Glendale firefighters fighting a vehicle fire when they were struck by a semi, according to Kentucky State Police.

Lisa French was flown to University of Louisville Hospital. She reportedly suffered a fractured elbow, and is expected to recover, officials said late Wednesday morning.
