Colorado Crews Rescue Injured Hiker

The man slipped on some rocks and hit is forehead and as his daugher tended to his injuries, his niece hiked into Allenspark to get help.

Aug. 08--Boulder County crews rescued a 59-year-old tourist Thursday after he fell and hit his head while hiking on the St. Vrain Mountain Trailhead near Allenspark.

According to a news release, at around 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Robert Hermes, of Indiana, was hiking with his 31-year-old daughter and 34-year-old niece when he slipped on some rocks and hit is forehead, causing a laceration. While his daughter performed first aid, Hermes' niece hiked into Allenspark to get help.

Rescuers reached Hermes on foot at 5 p.m. and were able to walk him to their ATVs and evacuate him to an ambulance, which transported him to Estes Park Medical Center.

Crews from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Allenspark Fire Department, Rocky Mountain National Park Service, Estes Park Ambulance, Glen Haven Fire Department, Boulder County Wildland Fire Group and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office participated in the rescue.
