A suspected drunk driver allegedly caused a fiery eight-car wreck that injured 10 people in San Jose.

Aug. 20--SAN JOSE -- The driver suspected of drunkenly racing down a street and causing a fiery eight-car wreck that injured 10 people has been arrested, the San Jose Police Department announced Tuesday.

Bryan Cuellar, 22, of San Jose, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and resisting arrest in the Sunday night collision at Ocala Avenue and Capitol Expressway.

Police say that around 9:30 p.m., Cuellar was seen speeding in a Mercedes sedan on Ocala approaching the expressway when he broadsided a vehicle, causing his car to rollover and hit six other cars in the intersection as well as a streetlight.

Cuellar then tried to run away from the scene, even as his mangled car caught fire with three passengers still inside, police said.

He was caught by responding officers and later taken to the hospital, along with the other occupants of his car, some of whom suffered what were described as life-threatening injuries.

Six motorists between the other seven cars were taken to the hospital for injuries but were expected to survive. A police officer was treated for smoke inhalation from helping put out the car fire.
